Your private dining turret forms part of Bonnieux's 12th-century city walls. The Australian owners chose elegant furnishings (Persian rugs, antique armchairs, chandeliers, marble vanities, claw-foot tub) combined with brocante finds to create a luxurious-but-laid-back French Country vibe, complete with AC and a plunge pool. Perfect for families with older kids and small groups who love the energy of village life: boulangeries, cafes, restaurants, galleries and the weekly market, etc. are all just a short walk away. In season, rentals are one week minimum, Saturday to Saturday. Weekly rental ranges from €1700 to €3100.

Loving the Village Life, Part I

Antique-filled living and dining room in a Provence rental apartment.
Evening drinks and hors d'oeuvres on a rooftop terrace in St. Remy with church just beyond.
Inviting bedroom with creamy stone walls in a Provence rental apartment.

Everyone loves this three-bedroom, three-bath decorator apartment with A/C and roof terrace (perfect for the apero hour before dinner or star-gazing after!) in the heart of historic St. Remy. Step out to shops, restaurants, cafes, galleries, cinema, museums, etc...then come home to space, comfort and ease. Perfect for: three couples or a small family (no kids under 12 please) who love a village setting and don't need a pool. 2024 prices: €540 per night (2 night min); weekly rate €3780. A small cleaning fee based on the number of guests will be extra, as are the standard (also small) traveler taxes. Note this apartment and the one listed just below are in the same building and can sometimes be rented together although they can't be adjoined.

Loving the Village Life, Part II

Here's a charming decorator apartment right in the heart of the historic village in St. Remy, just recently completely re-done. The host also owns the apartment listed just above; she created both using beautiful Provencale fabrics, traditional antiques, high-quality linens...and all the mod-cons you'll want for a flawless vacation. There are no steps in this ground floor two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, which is walk-able to everything in town...shops, restaurants, cafes, galleries, cinema, museums, etc. Then snuggle in to space, comfort and ease. Perfect for: two couples or a small family (no kids under 12 please) who love a village setting and don't need a pool. One recent guest wrote: "Beautifully decorated...and you cannot get more central. As we were there in hot summer, the cool and tranquil apartment was a true oasis from both the heat and the hustle and bustle of the village. Often we simply didn't want to leave the apartment. It also has excellent use of space and different seating areas if you want to find a quiet corner to chill. The host provided nice touches like a bottle of rose in the wine chiller, coffee pods, tea, sugar. The linen and towels were excellent quality--crisp white cotton. The beds were super comfortable--firm but not too firm. And finally, the showers and bathroom were excellent quality and in pristine condition (which is not always the norm in old French towns/buildings). If you want to be in central St Remy, I can't think of a better place or location." 2024 pricing: €320 per night (3 night min); weekly rate is €2240. Small additional fees for cleaning and traveler taxes will be charged based on the number of adults staying.

On a historic, sun-drenched 60-acre farm, halfway between St. Remy and Avignon, this beautiful 2000-square-foot, three-bedroom home was just completely renovated for a perfect vacation or long-term getaway. The French/American owners live in their own home on the property but the way things are designed, you’ll feel secluded and private. This is a three-bedroom, two-bath traditional stone farmhouse with a modern Provençale aesthetic...fresh, bright and lovingly decorated with antiques and custom-made pieces...and a private swimming pool. All bedrooms have central A/C. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, a shaded outdoor dining and lounge area with BBQ, WiFi, washing machine and petanque court. This is a secure, gated, very unique and beautiful property, with fruit trees, centuries-old plane trees, an olive grove, vast fields, sheep and (wait for it) a large pet pig named Oreo who loves to be scratched between the ears. Weekly prices begin at €3000. Note: during certain periods it's possible to rent the three-bedroom farmhouse, the family's very-grand five-bedroom home (with separate pool) and a simple, two-bedroom, one-bath cottage...all on the same property. Total price for the three houses (sleeping 20 people total) and two pools would be roughly 15K per week.

Plus, you can walk to the Clinique St. Paul (Van Gogh Clinic), the ancient site of Glanum and up to a gorgeous mountain reservoir which locals love and many travelers miss. The house sleeps six comfortably but was designed so ten people or more have plenty of space for pool parties, outdoor meals and lounging in the shade. Meunier - terrace2.jpg

This remarkable 12-acre hamlet is home to a group of beautifully restored guest houses on a family-run Provencal estate with a 15th-century flour mill between St. Remy and Avignon. It's walking distance to the village, with a large shared pool, gorgeous grounds, pétanque court, badminton, trampolines, etc., all surrounded by a flowing river and an adjacent forest with 850 acres of walking trails. Each house is separate and private from the others; rent one house or rent the entire 24-bedroom estate, like many groups do for reunions, workshops and special events. Accommodations range from a small studio apartment to an eight-bedroom home and all were renovated from existing buildings which once served the mill in one way or another. For example, one charming house (a former tuilerie where terracotta roof tiles were made) has four bedrooms, terrace, A/C, fully equipped kitchen, salon, dining area, private terrace and garden and rents for €2000 to €3500 per week, depending on the season. The houses and apartments are similar in style and decor, with pretty Provencal fabrics, French country antiques, fireplaces, private terraces and barbecues. Bed and bath linens are top hotel quality, professionally washed and ironed, crisp and soft! Beds are new and also top quality. You'll be welcomed with a just-made tart, fresh flowers or a selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables. Plus, the owners live on the property and there's full time staff to assist as needed.

Laid-Back and Luxurious

mas-notre-dame-eygalieres-gites-en-prove
Beautiful bedroom in a Provence rental home.

One of the many things we adore about this one-of-a-kind property is the flexibility it offers to couples, families and groups. Singles and couples can rent one B&B room with en-suite bath in the large, art-filled, four-bedroom villa...sharing the public spaces and pool with others. Or, privatize the house, take all four suites and have the large kitchen, living and dining areas, pool, sun room and terraces to yourself. Another possibility is to book one of four "mazet" cottages, each a luxurious home in itself with outdoor terraces, gardens and shared pool. (There are two heated pools, one for adults only.) Each mazet cottage has full kitchen, living room and either one or two bedrooms; one has a sleeping loft for kids. No matter which lodging you choose, you'll experience pure country calm, horses grazing next door and stellar views of lush landscaping (olive and fruit trees, lavender, etc.) with the Alpilles Mountains beyond. This is a fantastic option for retreats, workshops, reunions, weddings...or just the most-idyllic weekend or week (or more!) in Provence for a couple or family. And it's all just 1 km from one of our most-prized villages. Rooms and cottages range from €170 to €500 per night, depending on size and season. Weekly rates for cottages are €1300 to €2900, while rental of the entire four-suite home will cost €5800€ to €9200 per week. Privatizing the whole property (27 people max) is roughly €23,000 per week in high season.
